What should we prepare for a holiday in the autumn in
Hokkaido? A lot. From a-z you have to be ready, don’t travel in the wrong
costume, better be prepared than sorry, like bring an umbrella so you don’t get
wet and look less cool haha!
WHAT TO BRING/WEAR
1. Massive
suitcase
Why?
Because I made the terrible mistake of bringing a small one so I couldn’t bring
many gifts back home. My suitcase was only filled with clothes and the
necessities I thought I’d need there. Hokkaido is famous for its potatoes and
milk so my advice is to bring a massive suitcase to bring back some yummy food
and drinks for your family and friends.

2.
Umbrella
When it’s
autumn in Hokkaido, sometimes it rains. This is not just a saying, it’s better
to have an umbrella and not need one than to need an umbrella and not have one
in an uncertain weather. For one it’s cold, the temperature is -1 - 8°C and it was
almost winter so it was freezing. Don’t worry you can buy an umbrella in any
Seven Eleven here. Oh hey, if you’re on my snapchat you would know that at
Seven Elevens here, you can withdraw cash from the ATM and there’s Indonesian
language available so you don’t have to worry about being short on cash, so
cool, huh.
3. Personal Medicine
Don’t let illness ruin your holiday! It’s always important
to bring multivitamin that you can take every day because on holiday, you can
never be sure of the weather and you’ll be traveling and moving all the time so
your body has to stay fit.

4. Jacket
Bring jackets that are useful to keep you warm but not too
thick so they don’t take up much space in your suitcase and you can bring a few
so you don’t have the same look with every picture taken. One thing’s for sure,
don’t bring leather or denim jacket because those materials will absorb the cold
and make you colder.
Bring sneakers and boots because you need them both. Boots
are for Asahidake and sneakers are for daily use. Bring shoes that are
comfortable and fashionable without making your feet cold, and I can tell that you could find your comfy sneakers on @ourdailydoseid
6. Camera
Even though your phone’s camera is probably enough, because
autumn in Hokkaido is simply beautiful so whatever you use to take pictures
would turn out nice but it’s better to immortalise your precious moments here
properly. I use a Panasonic Lumix GX8 that’s good for taking pictures and also
videos.
7. Backpack
In order to be practical everywhere, bring a backpack that’s
comfortable to wear and can fit a lot of things so in case you need more space
for gifts, you can put them in your backpack, practical and easy so you don’t
have to carry a bunch of things at once.
Other than that, bring whatever suits your taste. My taste? As long as it’s comfy, easy on the eyes and keeps me warm. One thing’s for sure, from the initial departure flight, it was already cold on the plane (even though JAL provided us with nice blankets). Autumn in Hokkaido is extremely cold (around -1 -13°C according to where you go) but it’s so beautiful. Another useful information when you travel with JAL is you can wait at the Sakura Lounge in Narita Airport, it’s cozy from massage chairs, delicious food, assorted drink and fast Internet connection. It was so comfy if you want to check out tickets from JAL then you can find them here. I hope this information was useful to you.
Cheers,
Febrian
